SIDNEY - Robert Eugene Sayre Sr., 80, 4726 E. State Route 29, Sidney, died at his residence Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013.
He was born April 9, 1932, in Sidney, the son of the late Gorman and Anna (Umstead) Sayre.
He is survived by a daughter, Valerie Hilgefort, of Sidney; two sons, Robert Sayre Jr. and his wife, Kathy, of Maplewood, and Richard Sayre and his wife, Sherry, of Port Jefferson; three stepchildren, James Lee Johnson and his wife, Eileen, of Michigan, Penny Wolfe and her husband, Mark, of Sidney and Wanda Gurdo and her husband, Art, of New York; a sister, Shirley Poe, of Tennessee; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
One grandson, Timothy Spradlin Jr., is deceased.
Mr. Sayre was a 1950 graduate of Sidney High School. He was a Korean War Navy veteran and had been employed for many years as a truck driver for Copeland Corp. and Rising Sun Express. He was an avid sprint car fan, late model car fan and was a wrecker driver for Eldora Speedway and Lima Land.
Private memorial services will be held at a later date. There are no calling hours.
Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home in Sidney is handling funeral arrangements.
