Robert McCoy

PIQUA — Robert Lee McCoy, 71, of Piqua, passed away Sunday, Aug. 31, 2014 at The Hospice of Dayton after a lengthy illness.

He was born on Sept. 20, 1942, in Dundee, Mississippi to James Watson McCoy and Christine (Lott) McCoy White, who preceded him in death. On Feb. 28, 2003, he married Beth Owens, who survives of the home.

He is also survived by his son, Christopher John (Latasha) Smith, of Piqua; grandchildren, Nicholas A. Smith McCoy, Miranda (Chris) Sheppard, Sheylynn Smith, Mackenzie Smith, Kristopher Smith, Isaiah Smith and Tayshaun Smith; and five great-grandchildren.

Robert also leaves behind to cherish his memories, brothers, Watson McCoy, of Troy, the Rev. William (Cindy) McCoy, of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Charles McCoy, of Malden, Missouri, the Rev. Wesley (Jewelettia) McCoy, of Troy, Ohio, the Rev. Tommy (Lynn) McCoy, of Fort Worth, Texas, Terry (Amy) McCoy, of Troy, Ohio, Keith (Jennifer) McCoy, of Fuqua Varina, North Carolina, Samuel McCoy of Peekskill, New York, and James McCoy Jr. of Tunica, Mississippi; sisters, Velma (Marvin) Kinnel, of Piqua, Kelly and Debra McCoy, both of Troy, Ohio, Gloria (Michael) Coyle of Noblesville, Indiana, and Annie (Murphie) Frazier Sr., of Troy, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria (Minnich) McCoy, and brothers, Willie C. McCoy, Johnnie H. McCoy and James McCoy.

Robert served in the U.S. Army. He retired from The Ohio Operating Engineers as a heavy equipment operator. He gave his life to the Lord in 1989 and served as Senior Elder as well as staff Pastor over Greater Grace Drug & Alcohol Ministry at Agape Ministries in Troy. He later served as staff Pastor and Drug &Alcohol Counselor at Lighthouse Ministries in Sidney, Ohio.

A home going service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8, 2014, at True Vine Church, 531 W. Ash St., Piqua, Ohio. Visitation will be Sunday, Sept. 7, 2014, from 2 to 612. p.m. at Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy, and on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at True Vine Church, Piqua. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Troy with a military service at graveside by the Veterans Memorial Honor Guard of Troy.
