SIDNEY — Robert "Bob" L. Puthoff, age 72, of Wells Drive, Sidney, passed away Friday afternoon, Sept. 11, 2015, at the Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. He had not been able to recover from injuries sustained from an accident that occurred on Aug. 27.

He was born Oct. 21, 1942, in St. Patrick, Ohio, to the late Bernard and Bertha (Menker) Puthoff. On May 2, 1964, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Fort Loramie, Bob married Teresa (Borchers) Puthoff who survives.

Also surviving are five children, Kathy (Puthoff) Cavinder, of Sidney, David and Anne (Prenger) Puthoff, of Minster, Brenda (Puthoff) McIver, of Sidney, Amy (Puthoff) and Kurt Hilgefort, of Minster, and Mark and Jennifer (Ondera), of Troy; 27 grandchildren; five siblings, Vera Woehrmyer, of Minster, Mary Holthaus, of Fort Loramie, Melvin Puthoff, of Naples, Florida, Donald and Phylis Puthoff, of Minster, and Bonnie (twin) and Frank Turner, of Fort Loramie; brothers and sisters-in-law, Eugene Rethman, of Fort Loramie, Louis Thieman, of Carmel, Indiana, Irene and Jake Sherman, of Fort Loramie, Phyllis and Kenneth Salyers, of Kettering, Bernice and Carl Hoying, of Bell Centre, Henry and Elena Borchers, of Centerville, Diane Borchers, of Kettering, Denise Borchers, of Huber Heights, Jerome and Theresa Borchers, of Yellow Springs, Leo and Michele Borchers, of Fort Loramie, Clement and Jeannine Keefe Borchers, of Ashland, Massachusetts, Mary Ann and Denis Rochat, of Knoxville, Tennessee, Francis Borchers, of Ben Lomond, California, and Raymond and Let Borchers, of Haiku Maui, Hawaii.

He was preceded in death by eight siblings, Francis Puthoff, Corrine Francis, Lucille Puthoff, Marjorie Rethman, Barbara Thieman, Martha Lou, Rita Mae and Norma Jean Puthoff; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Freda and Betty Puthoff, Thomas Francis, Melvin Woehrmyer, Alfred Holthaus and Larry Borchers.

Mr. Puthoff graduated with the Fort Loramie High School class of 1960. He then served four years in the U.S. Army Reserves. He later continued studies at the University of Toledo and earned a Master's Degree in Education. Bob retired in 2009 from the Upper Valley Joint Vocational School in Piqua where he had been a Machine Trades instructor for 35 years. He was previously superintendent of the former Shelby County Children's Home and had also been employed at Wayne Trail in Fort Loramie.

Bob was an active member of Holy Angels Catholic Church. Over the years, he served 47 years as a lector and 27 years as PSR/CCD Catechist at Holy Angels and St. Michael parishes. He was a 4th Degree K of C member of St. Gaspar del Bufalo Assembly 825. Bob and Teresa served as a team couple at World Wide Marriage Encounter and had also been active in the Apostolic Movement of Schoenstatt and the Junipero Serra Club. Bob attended Mass daily; he also enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with his family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, 2015, at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sidney with the Rev. Benedict O'Cinnsealaigh presiding. Interment will take place 3 p.m. at St. Michael Cemetery in Fort Loramie.

Friends may call Thursday 2 to 8 p.m. and Friday 9 to 9:30 a.m. at Gehret Funeral Home, 64 Elm St., Fort Loramie.
