She was born on Jan. 19, 1948, in Sidney, the daughter of Betty (Elizabeth Osborn) and Lincoln Wical, who preceded her in death.
Sandy is survived by her brother, John Craig Wical, of Wapakoneta, and sister, Janice "Jan" Mae Paullin, of Battle Ground, Wash., as well as five nephews and one niece, along with numerous cousins. Sandy also had several very close friends who assisted her during the months of her illness, including her friends/caregivers, Charlene Jarvis and Maureen Northern. Her cousin, Jeff Wical, was also instrumental in orchestrating her care. Sandy loved animals and is survived by her dog, Boo, and cat, Bosco.
Sandy graduated from Botkins High School in 1966 and Elkhart Institute of Technology in 1968. She worked as a laboratory technologist, first at Piqua Memorial Hospital, and then for more than 25 years at Dayton Children's Hospital. After leaving the hospital, she worked for more than 10 years at Eastway.
Sandy had a passion for animals and volunteering and combined the two in numerous ways, including working 20 years with Pet Behavior Training Service, many years with ASNAP Spade and Neuter program and the Montgomery County Animal Shelter. She was also very faithful in volunteering every year at the Botkins United Methodist Church election day meal, which was her home church.
