FUQUAY VARINA, N.C. — Steven "Steve" Eugene Dowler, 65, of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2016, at his residence. Steve had been battling pancreatic cancer for more than two years with faith, courage and dignity. He received support through the CaringBridge, family, friends and co-workers who had been following his journey since his diagnosis.

He was born Dec. 6, 1950, in Greenville, Ohio, the son of Patricia (Adkins) Dowler and the late Herbert Dowler.

He was a 1970 graduate of Sidney High School, Sidney, Ohio. He was a member of the 1969 and 1970 Sidney High School Yellow Jackets football team for two of their three undefeated seasons. He was team captain for the 1969-70 season.

On June 13, 1970, in Sidney, Ohio, he married the love of his life, Vicki J. (Davis) Dowler and she survives.

After graduation, he served in the Ohio National Guard. He was employed by the state of Ohio, city of Sidney, Frantz Brothers and Piqua Steel Company prior to moving to North Carolina in 1995, where he had been employed by Southern Industrial Construction Co./EMCOR until the time of his passing.

He was an active member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Raleigh, North Carolina. Steve embraced having grandchildren and enjoyed watching and attending their soccer, baseball and dancing events. He loved being a grandpa and each of his grandchildren were the apple of his eye.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Vicki, of 45 years; mother, Patricia Dowler, of Piqua, Ohio; two sons and daughters-in-law, Travis and Catherine Dowler, of Holly Springs, North Carolina, and Todd and Adrianne Dowler, of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina; two sisters, Barbara Coverstone and Gary Wick, of St. Paris, Ohio, and Pamela and William Fisher, of Greenville, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Layla, Tyler and Hailey, of Holly Springs, North Carolina. He is also survived by beloved sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of Steve's life was held Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016, at the Asbury United Methodist Church in Raleigh, North Carolina, with the Rev. Terry Bryant officiating.
