SIDNEY — Thelma B. Sargeant, 90, of 988 Winfield Ctour, Sidney, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014, at 12:05 a.m. at Dorothy Love Retirement Community.

She was born on March 29, 1924, in Sidney, Ohio, the daughter of the late Charles O. and Gladys (Hetzler) Middleton.

On Dec. 3, 1944, she married Robert C. Sargeant, who survives along with two daughters, Marsha Jarvis and Lynn (husband Bruce) Lindsey, both of Sidney; one sister, Jean (husband Elton) Kaminski, of Sidney; four grandchildren, Chris (wife Natalie) Jarvis, Ryan Jarvis, Kelsey (husband Al) Lindsey Ervin and Jesse (wife Alisha) Lindsey; two great-granddaughters, Porter and Sutton Ervin; and two foster grandchildren, Raynae (Watercutter) Williams and Amy Watercutter.

She was preceded in death by one grandchild, one sister, Mrs. Paul (Eileen) Berner, and one foster daughter, Michelle (Randall) Watercutter.

Mrs. Sargeant was a 1942 graduate of Green Township High School in Plattsville. She worked for Stolle Corp. during World War II.

Over the years, Thelma and her husband Robert have been very active and supportive of the Shelby County community. In 1997, the Robert and Thelma Sargeant Scholorship Fund, which is a perpetual fund, was established to annually assist Fairlawn graduates and college students. Band uniforms and instruments have also been donated to Fairlawn Schools.

Robert and Thelma are annual contributors to the Shelby County Applefest, and in 2008 they served as grand marshals in the parade. The Sargeants were also primary donors to the Hospice suites at the Dorothy Love Retirement Community in 2008.

Thelma was a homemaker and enjoyed china painting and motor home traveling. Bob and she spent their winters in Marco Island, Florida. Thelma loved spending time visiting with her family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014, at noon at Cromes Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave, Sidney, with the Rev. James Oates officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Point Cemetery in Pasco.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the "Robert and Thelma Sargeant Scholarship Fund" or the "Dorothy Love Life Care Fund" in memory of Thelma B. Sargeant.
