FORT LORAMIE - Virgil E. Barhorst, 91, of 94 S. Main St., died at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 16, 1921, in Fort Loramie, the son of the late Anthony and Josephine (DeBrosse) Barhorst.
He married Catherine "Katie" Helmstetter on Nov. 3, 1951, in St. Marys, and she preceded him in death, Jan. 11, 2010.
He is survived by children Tim and Barbara Barhorst, of Yellow Springs, Deb and Tom Millhouse, of New Bremen, Terry Barhorst, of Cincinnati, Patrick and Thecla Barhorst, of Minster, and Tom and Fran Barhorst, of Fort Loramie; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brothers and sisters Irenus Barhorst, Robert Barhorst, Raymond Barhorst, Agnes Behr, Margaret Monnin, Frances Wagner and Ann Maltinsky.

He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and Fort Loramie, American Legion and a former member of FOE 1391 in Minster.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. He was retired from Marwil Products, Fort. Loramie.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at St. Michael Catholic Church by the Rev. Steven Shoup.
Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster, from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012. Burial will take place in St. Michael Cemetery with full military honors.
