Wilbert Gruebmeyer

NEW BREMEN — Wilbert F. Gruebmeyer, age 95, of New Bremen, died on Thursday, May 8, 2014, at 8:10 a.m. at Elmwood Assisted Living of New Bremen.

He was born on Aug. 15, 1918, on the family farm outside of New Bremen, Ohio. He was the son of the late Fred and Flora (Wehrman) Gruebmeyer. On June 20, 1945 he married Gladys C. Brockman, who preceded him in death on April 6, 2002.

Survivors include his children Larry and Carol Gruebmeyer, of Mesa, Arizona, Wayne and Kathy Gruebmeyer, of New Bremen, Ned and Marie Gruebmeyer, of Tipp City, and Janet and Robert Eilerman, of New Bremen; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Wilbert was preceded in death by two infant sons, and his siblings Jeannette Hegemier, Vilma Rump and Leonard Gruebmeyer.

Mr. Gruebmeyer was a faithful member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen. He was active in the church for many years, including serving as a trustee on the church council. He was engaged in farming for his entire life, and in his spare time greatly enjoyed going fishing. Family was also a large part of Wilbert's life. His family was important to him and he always enjoyed the time they spent together.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 12, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen with the Rev. Becky Erb Strang officiating. Burial will follow in the German Protestant Cemetery, New Bremen.

Calling Hours will be held on Sunday, May 11, 2014, from 2 until 6 p.m. at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen, and on Monday one hour prior to the services at the church.
