William Phlipot

NEW BREMEN — William T. Phlipot, 61, of New Bremen, died on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, at 1:46 a.m. at his residence.

He was born on April 16, 1952, in Coldwater, the son of the late Ernest and Jeannette (Budde) Phlipot. Those who loved him most include his wife, Julie (Doseck), whom he married on Sept. 18, 1982; his daughter, Krista (Chad) Westerheide, of Columbus; grandson, Paxon Westerheide; siblings, Dot Scheer, of New Bremen, Tom (Brenda) Phlipot, of New Bremen, Deb (Tom) Scroggins, of SeaBrook, Texas, Dan Phlipot of Conyers, Ga., Ken (Amy) Phlipot, of Celina; father-in-law, Sam (Henrietta) Doseck, of Fort Loramie; in-laws Linda Byrley of Arizona, Tom (Karen) Doseck, of Russia, Ken (Mary) Doseck, of Upper Sandusky, Donna (Mark) Blanchard, of Defiance, John (Teresa) Doseck, of Botkins; and a large number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, John Phlipot; stepmother, Betty (Bergman) Phlipot; brother-in-law, Ron Scheer; and mother-in-law, Irene Doseck.

He was a member of the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen, where he was as a collection counter. Bill was a 1970 graduate of New Bremen High School, were he was president of his senior class. He had attended Edison Community College. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War, where he was a tow missile maintenance repairman and was a Bronze Star recipient. He was a member of the New Bremen American Legion Post 241 serving as a member of the firing squad and was a past commander. He was a member of the VFW of Versailles, the New Bremen Rod & Gun Club, and the Home Benefit Association of New Bremen. He was a past owner of the former Tasty Scoop Ice Cream and Putt-Putt Course in New Bremen. Bill worked at the Midmark Corp. of Versailles, where he retired in July of 2011 after 40 years of service. Bill enjoyed hunting, driving around and playing his guitar and was an original member of the Phlipot 4.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen with the Rev. Thomas Mannebach officiating. Burial will follow in the German Protestant Cemetery, New Bremen.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, from 3 until 8 p.m. at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen, and from 9 until 10 a.m., Saturday, at the church, at which time the rosary will be prayed.
