SIDNEY — Willis D. "Jake" Boyer, 86, of 2500 N.Kuther Road, Apt. 110, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at 10 p.m. at the Dorothy Love Retirement Community.

He was born on February 14, 1928, in Anna, Ohio, the son of the late Clyde and Sylvia (Bates) Boyer. On Feb. 18, 1951, he married Nina A. Shue, who survives along with one brother, Ralph C. Boyer of Prosper, Texas;, In-Laws, E.Thomas Flinn, of Miamisburg, Victor Maurer, of New Bremen, Eileen Boyer, of Anna, and Marlene Davis, of Fostoria; and 24 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.

Mr.Boyer was the former Service Director for the village of Anna as well as the former Fire Chief for the village for a number of years. Mr. Boyer was a World War II US Navy veteran, a member of the American Legion Heiland Post 446. A member of Stokes Lodge 305 F.& A.M. for more than 50 years, Sidney Chapter 130, Sidney Council 70 and Sidney Commandry 46. In 2003 Jake had the distingushed honor of receiving an Honorary Diploma from the Anna High School and in 2011 Mr. Boyer was appointed Grand Marshall of the Anna Homecoming celebration. Mr. Boyer was one of the oldest member's of the Anna United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at the Anna United Methodist Church with the Rev. Randy Locker officiating. Burial will be at Pearl Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Cromes Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave. and at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of the service on Tuesday. A Stokes Masonic Lodge memorial service will be held at 6:45 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorials be made to the Anna United Methodist Church Building Fund or the Dorothy Love Life Care Fund in memory of Willis "Jake" Boyer. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.
