Preceding her in death was her grandson, Tom Gates, and great-granddaughter, Kailey Short.

Wilma was a graduate of Sidney High School class of 1941. She retired from Copeland Corporation after 35 years of dedicated service. She also worked at Monarch Machine for two years after graduation during World War II oil lining gear boxes for lathes used to make guns for the war effort. She walked six days per week to Monarch Machine from her home at the corner of North Broadway and Russell Road and then walked home. She recalled often redoing work of others until she was told "That's not your job."

She did volunteer work at Wilson Memorial Hospital in the Chaplain's office and at Adult Daycare of Shelby County under Ruth Burnside for many years of faithful service. She always thought of this as her "job."

Wilma was a member of the Volley Ball team at the Adult Day Care. She also helped clean her church. This brought her much joy.

She was a faithful church member of Word of Life Ministries (formerly Christian Tabernacle) which she dearly loved her church family.

Wilma moved to Dorothy Love Retirement Community in November 2010 where she made many friends. Her favorite activity was playing Bingo with her good friends, Jack Hines, Inez Hugeback, and Esther Baldwin as well as the other wonderful residents of Dorothy Love. She enjoyed having her meals each day with her good friends, Margaret Johnson and Lena Laughlin. She loved the Lord and would never hesitate to share His Word with others.

She not only spoke of her faith but she truly walked her faith each day of her life. She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends.
