SIDNEY — Fred A. Layne, 75, of 2901 Fair Road, Sidney, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2014, at 7:20 p.m. at the Fair Haven Shelby County Home.
He was born on March 14, 1938, in Monteagle, Tenn., the son of the late Jay and Huetta (Gilliam) Layne.
He is survived by his former wife, Jeanette "Marlene" Layne, and their two daughters, Donna Sartain and husband, Billy, and Brenda Shoemaker and husband, Jeffrey, both of Piqua; two grandchildren, Frederick "Jamie" Sammons and Jordyne Shoemaker; one great-grandson, Hunter Sammons; one brother, Kenneth Layne and wife, Bunia, of Pelham Tenn.; and two sisters, Marlene O'Neal and husband, Kenny, and Arlene Layne and husband, Homer, both of Pelham, Tenn. He was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers.
Mr. Layne retired as a machinist. He was a member of the Crossroad Church of God in Piqua.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Full Gospel Community Church, 950 Childrens Home Road, Sidney, with the Revs. Joe Hill and Jeff Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Shelby Memory Gardens in Sidney.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Cromes Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave., Sidney.
