SIDNEY — Bette J. Brentlinger, 84, of 510 Montrose Court, passed away Thursday evening, April 10, 2014, at St. Ann's Hospital in Westerville, Ohio. She and her husband, Jim, have been residing in Columbus where their daughter lives since October 2012.
Bette was born on Oct. 23, 1929, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of the late James and Sally Grace (Alexander) Reisinger.
On Dec. 4, 1949, she married James G. "Jim" Brentlinger, who survives her, along with their daughter, Kelley Faler and husband, Michael, of the Worthington area in Columbus; two grandchildren, Micah Faler and wife, Bridget, and Kesha Day and husband, Warren; two great-grandchildren, Luke and Laney; and half sister, Marilyn Archer and husband, Denny.
Bette was preceded in death by one son, Mike Brentlinger, one sister, Janet Aschenbach, and two nephews, Jon and Eric Aschenbach.
Before Bette and Jim were married, she worked as a telephone operator for United Telephone in Sidney. They drove to Anchorage, Alaska, for their honeymoon and lived there for seven years. There, she worked as a cashier for the Anchorage Utility Co. until their son was born. Upon returning to Sidney in 1956, Bette spent her time raising their two children and serving as a Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader, along with other roles as a mother.
She and Jim were lifelong members of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Sidney. She enjoyed being on the church's decorating committee and participating in Esther's Circle. She volunteered in the Wilson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was a supportive wife in all her husband's hunting and fishing endeavors.
Bette treasured the times she and Jim spent traveling and vacationing, whether just the two of them, or often with their dearest friends. Bette's favorite interests included interior decorating, gardening and sharing a meal with family or friends. She was an extremely devoted grandmother to her grandchildren whom she adored. Bette and Jim traveled all over to watch their soccer, basketball and football games! They were married 64 years. She will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 17, 2014, at 1 p.m. at Cromes Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave. Burial will be at Pearl Cemetery in Swanders. The family will receive friends on Thursday, from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
