SIDNEY — Florence Marveleen Shipman, 92, of Sidney, Ohio, passed away at 10 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2014, at The Pavilion.
She was born on Nov. 23, 1921, in Jackson Center, Ohio, the daughter of the late Christian and Caroline (Kaehler) Klopfenstein. On May 23, 1943, she was married to Paul E. Shipman, who preceded her in death on March 23, 2003.
Florence is survived by two children, Joyce (John) Thoma and Mark (Sandi) Shipman, both of Sidney, Ohio; son-in-law, James Macy, of Pompano Beach, Florida; five grandchildren, Bret Macy, Travis (Kate) Thoma, Kara (Jason) Riley, Zane and Zoe Shipman; seven great-grandchildren, Madison and Chad Macy, Allie, Jace and Jax Thoma, and Tagen and Ella Riley; one sister, Eileen Faler; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Judi Macy, one grandson, Chad Macy, two sisters; Erma Wilt and Martha Spicer, and one brother, Ivan Klopfenstein.
Mrs. Shipman was a graduate of Jackson Center High School, class of 1940. She was a long-time member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Sidney, Ohio,. Florence was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 217. She was an excellent cook, who enjoyed scrapbooking, gardening and creating beautiful flower arrangements. She was a wonderful homemaker, loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 30, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Cromes Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave., Sidney, Ohio, with the Rev. Jonathan W. Schriber officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Point Cemetery in Pasco, Ohio.Along with Mrs. Shipman, there will be a committal of ashes of her daughter, Judi Macy and grandson, Chad Macy.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made to Wilson Hospice in memory of Florence Marveleen Shipman.
