PIQUA — The Rev. Ernest M. "Ernie" Ellis, 82, of Piqua, went to be with his God at 7:20 p.m., Sunday. June 22, 2014. at his residence surrounded by his children.

He was born April 12, 1932, in Shelby County to the late Chester J. and Cloda (Abbott) Ellis. He married Katherine M. Berry Nov. 19, 1954, in Piqua; she preceded him in death April 3, 2014.

Survivors include a son, Mark Ellis, of Piqua; a daughter, Kathy Ellis, of Piqua; a sister, Edna Berstch, of Sidney. He was preceded in death by a son, Ray Ellis; five sisters and four brothers.

The Rev. Ellis was a 1950 graduate of Sidney High School and retired in 1992 as a senior machine operator for the B. F. Goodrich Co., following 34 years of employment. He became a minister later in his life, doing God's work wherever he was. He was active with the Liberty Baptist Church, where he had served as pastor for many years. He served as a scout master for the Boy Scouts of America for 15 years and was a York Rite Mason with the Temperance Masonic Lodge No. 73 of Sidney and the Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton.

A service to honor his life will begin at 1 p.m., Friday, June 27, 2014, at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Ellis officiating. Burial will follow at Miami Memorial Park, Covington.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.
