Donna Boblit

SIDNEY — Donna Ruth Boblit, age 89, of Sidney, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2014, at 9:23 a.m. at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Donna was born Nov. 5, 1924, in Sidney, the daughter of the late Francis T. and Ella Marie (Hall) Cook. Donna married Harry Boblit on August 3, 1946, and they shared more than 68 years together. He preceded her in death in 2004.

Donna is survived by her daughters, Dana Vanderhorst and her husband, Glenn, of Sidney, Ohio, Darlena "Darcy" Boblit-Dill, and her husband, Keith, of Springfield, Ohio, adopted daughter, Debra L. (Brunner) Wood and her husband, Charles, of Quincy, Ohio; three grandchildren, Mark A. Vanderhorst, of Columbus, Ohio, Michael J. Vanderhorst, and his wife, Amy (Shaffer), of Sidney, Ohio, and Meranda J. "Mandy" (Vanderhorst) Jones, and her husband, Mark W. Jones, of Sidney, Ohio; one stepgranddaughter, Heather Wood; great-grandchildren, Aarron J. Vanderhorst, Whitney D. Vanderhorst, Devon L. Jones and Samantha J. Jones, all of Sidney, Ohio; one sister, Ellen W. Weadock, of St. Marys, Ohio.

Donna was preceded in death by her stepmother, Angela (Maloney) Cook, and one brother, Robert W. Cook Sr.

A registered nurse, Donna received her degree from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, in Toledo, Ohio, in 1944. Over the years she had been employed by Wilson Memorial Hospital, Minster Nursing Home, Minster, Ohio, and the Dorothy Love Retirement Community, in Sidney, Ohio. Prior to her retirement, Donna had also worked at the Shelby County Jail for nearly five years.

Donna was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church in Sidney. She loved to read, listen to music, knit and crochet in her spare time. She belonged to a card club for years with many of her nursing buddies and closest friends. She was a remarkable woman who will be remembered as a selfless caregiver of all. Donna loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to so many. She will be sadly missed by all.

Memorial services will be conducted Monday, June 30, 2014, at 6 p.m., at the Adams Funeral Home, 1401 Fair Road, Sidney, Ohio, with the Rev. Darcy Boblit-Dill officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Point Cemetery, Pasco, Ohio.

Calling hours for family and friends will be on Monday, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home, prior to the memorial service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wilson Hospice Care, 1081 Fairington Drive, Sidney, or Amos Memorial Library in Donna's memory. Donation envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
