SIDNEY — Palmer Willard Watkins, 70, of Sidney, passed away Saturday, July 5, 2014, at 1:05 a.m. at Fair Haven Shelby County Home.
He was born on Dec. 14, 1943, in Sidney, the son of the late Palmer and Mildred (Randolph) Watkins.
He is survived by one son, Sonny Watkins, of Arkansas, and one daughter, Rose, as well as one brother, James Watkins, of Quincy, and two sisters, Olive Perin, of Marion, and Zenith "Kitty" Johnson, of Gallipolis.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Joseph Watkins, Wright Watkins, George Watkins and John Watkins and four sisters, Bertha L. Granger, Lena Stachoski, Ann Bair and Dorothy Blackford.
Palmer was a Vietnam veteran who served in the U.S. Navy from 1964 to 1968. He was stationed aboard the North Hampton and the USS Putman and served in the Great Lakes. He was awarded the Navy Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Medal.
Mr. Watkins was a retired truck driver and worked for Continental Cans.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at 1 p.m. at the Cromes Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave. with the Rev. Harold McKnight officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by Sidney American Legion Post 217 will be at Pearl Cemetery in Swanders. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
