HUNTSVILLE - Ralph E. Hughes, 83, of Huntsville passed away Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at his residence.
He was born on April 19, 1929, in McArthur Township, the son of the late Lloyd P. and Vera Ruth (Franks) Hughes. Also preceding him in death are two brothers, Richard C. and Rodney H. Hughes.
He is survived by his wife, the former Donna L. Meyers Roth, whom he married March 26, 1982, at Indian Lake. He is also survived by their 11 children, Jan (Tim) Smith, of Bellefontaine; Judy (Eldon) Lambert, of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands; Jeff Hughes, of Marathon, Fla.; Leeanne Lusby, of Bellefontaine; Gene (Marty) Hughes, of Weeki Wachee, Fla.; David (Telisa) Hughes, of Bellefontaine; Sandy Walker of Marysville, Calif.; Mike (Beth) Roth, of Appleton, Wis.; Deb (Brent) Jeffers, of West Liberty; Bob Roth, of Bellefontaine; Nancy (special friend, Jerry Zimmerman) Roth, of Xenia; and adopted son, John James, of Bellefontaine. Other survivors are a brother, Dan (Phylis) Hughes, of Kenton; 19 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and his former wife, Alice J. Hughes, of Bellefontaine.
Ralph was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War and was also a life member of the NRA, Elks Lodge and American Legion Post No. 173. He worked as a rural letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service before retiring to spend time with his family and friends on Indian Lake. He enjoyed 23 years wintering in Lake Wales, Fla., spending time with numerous friends fishing and being a big Earnhardt and NASCAR fan.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday in Indian Lake Community Church, Russells Point, with the Rev. Jim Ellington officiating.

Visitation is scheduled at Smith-Eichholtz Funeral Home, Lakeview, today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Huntsville Cemetery with military honors provided by the Logan County Veteran Honor Guard.
