SIDNEY - Joan M. Emert, 82, of 8156 State Route 47, passed away Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at 12:50 p.m.at her home surrounded by her children and close friends.
She was born on April 9, 1930, in Sidney, the daughter of the late Albert H. and Mary Ethel (Ashbaugh) Bricker.
On June 29, 1957, she married Wilbur M. Emert who preceded her in death on May 3, 1989.
She is survived by one son, Jon Emert and one daughter, Patricia Emert both of Sidney; a brother, Darrel Bicker of Sidney; and her special dog, "Beanie Baby."
She was preceded in death by one sister, Ruby H. Potts.
Mrs. Emert worked at the Credit Bureau in Sidney from 1952 to 1963. Joan loved to play the piano and organ and at the age of 16 started playing for various churches. She was church organist at Memorial United Methodist Church for 40 years, First Christian Church for 11 years and the Trinity Church of the Brethren for the past five years. She had played for funerals at the Cromes Funeral Home for more than 35 years and also played for the Sidney Rotary Club during their noon meetings.
In 1992 after playing for the elementary school at Hardin for several years for their special music programs she received the School Community Award for that year. Joan was a member of the Sidney First United Methodist Church the Current Event Club and the Town and Country Euchre Club for more than 60 years.
A memorial service will be conducted Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Sidney First United Methodist Church by the Rev. Dr. David Chivington.
The family will receive friends on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Cromes Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave.
A private burial will take place at Miami Memorial Park in Covington prior to the memorial service.
The family suggests memorials may be made to Wilson Hospice in memory of Joan Emert. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
