Annie Mae Luster(1937 - 2018)

Annie "Mae" Luster, age 80, formerly a long-time resident of Saugus, CA passed away at home in Albuquerque, NM on May 15, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love of family and friends carried her through nearly ten years of treatment.

Mae was born May 24, 1937 in Savannah, GA, the daughter of Carl and Esther Sims. Shegrew up in the country and spent most of her youth working the fields alongside her family, all-the-while entertaining them with stories and mischief making.

In 1954 while working as a carhop at Savannah's Dixieland Drive-In, Mae met the love of her life. Dewey "Yogi" Luster. They were married a year later and within five years Mae and Yogi had four sons. The young family then moved to Newhall, CA where they both worked at Newhall Bowl. Mae was an accomplished bowler, having won many events, bowling a 300 game, and enjoying it into her 80's. As her boys grew so did her love of sports. Mae was their number one fan and spent hours on the field and in the gym following their sports achievements. She was equally proud of their careers and marriages.

Mae worked for years as a preschool teacher at Santa Clarita United Methodist Church, and later as a secretary for Dupont. She cherished her time working in the family business with Yogi, which serviced the equipment needs of local schools and the Los Angeles Raiders. She had many favorite players over the years, but they always wore black and silver.

She loved to garden, had a passion for pink roses and collard greens, but her greatest love was her eight grandchildren, and great grandchild. A woman of faith and the heart of her family, "Grammy" lived for family gatherings and would spend hours cooking southern meals. Her kindness was extended to anyone in need and many COC students shared the holidays and a meal at her table. Throughout her life she had a sweet and simple demeanor which won the hearts of many.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Yogi; son Jim and wife Carol of Albuquerque, NM (Andrew, Tyler and wife Haley, Jake and wife Kelly and their daughters Joie and Rachael); son Gary and wife Suzette of Greeley, CO (Garrett and Madison); son Ed and wife Ginger of Santa Clarita, CA (Dakotah and wife Saya and Juliey Mae). Mae was preceded in death by her beloved son Bill; sisters LaTrelle and Faye; brothers Carl and Ernest.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00am on Friday, June 1, 2018 at Santa Clarita United Methodist Church, 26640 Bouquet Canyon Rd, Santa Clarita, CA 91350 with Pastor Stan Fix officiating. A reception will immediately follow.
