Richard "Rick" Kerr Obituary

Richard "Rick" Kerr passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in his home in Saugus, CA on Sunday, February 9, 2014. Rick was born in Englewood, NJ to Robert Kerr, Jr. and Ruth Foss Kerr. Rick moved to Burbank, CA when he was 8 years old. He attended John Burroughs High School before starting his career at Lockheed Martin.

Rick leaves two daughters: Brenda Jean Valdivia and Brandy Hurst, as well as, grandchildren: Maria and Anthony Valdivia and Ryan Anthony Hurst. He will live on in the hearts of his brothers: Robert Kerr, III and wife Joan; Jeffrey Kerr and wife Lori; David J. Kerr; as well as, his step-mother Mary Jane Kerr. Rick will be sorely missed by nephews Robbie Kerr and Chris Miller, niece Jackie Pickering and husband Richard; grand-nephews Jeffrey Matthew and Bradley Kerr; as well as, his niece Patty Veres Slack and husband Mike and children Madison and Lydon Brackelmanns.

More than any other single accomplishment, Rick was devoted to the safeguarding and protection of feral and abandoned animals in and around the Santa Clarita Valley. He worked tirelessly until his final days toward rescuing, rehabilitating, and finding homes for his stray animals. Among his other successes he recently established a rescue facility in Acton, CA. Rick was an enormously positive advocate for animals and he will be missed.

Memorial Services will be held in Rick's honor on Monday, February 24, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Eternal Valley Memorial Park & Mortuary, 23287 North Sierra Highway, Newhall, CA 91321.
