MARILYN SULLIVAN Obituary

SULLIVAN, MARILYN FLECK It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marilyn Sullivan, 80, who passed away on October 20, 2009, surrounded by her family. St. Peter welcomed her into heaven. A longtime La Jolla resident, Marilyn was a devout Catholic and a founding member of All Hallows Catholic Church. Marilyn Fleck was born in 1929 in Bismarck, North Dakota. She attended St. Catherine's College in Minnesota and was elected homecoming queen of nearby St. John's College. She transferred to the University of Colorado where she was the first woman to earn a degree in Business, graduating at the top of her class. In 1952, she married James O'Keefe Sullivan, her beloved husband of fifty-two years. Marilyn was an accomplished needlepoint artist whose framed pictures and floral rugs added great beauty to her homes. She had elegant taste in interior design and was known for her many beautiful homes. In addition to being a wonderful homemaker and cook, Marilyn loved to spend time with her many incredible friends. She enjoyed reading, playing bridge and hosting and attending social events. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting beautiful outfits. She was a loving and generous wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be dearly missed. Marilyn was preceded in death in 2004 by her loving husband Jim and her loving son Brian in 1992 and is survived by her sons Michael, Robert, and Mark Sullivan and her daughters Nancy Dowell and Lynne Markham. She is also survived by her five grandchildren Jennifer, Elisabeth, Jackson, Erica and Caroline, her sons-in-law David Markham and David Dowell, and her brother and sister Bob Fleck and Lucy Fields. A Mass to celebrate Marilyn's life will be offered at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, October 26th, at All Hallows Catholic Church, 6602 La Jolla Scenic Drive South, La Jolla, CA.

There was something about Marilyn. She exuded a stateliness and class that surrounded her. She was always charming. She was proud of her family, that was obvious. Our condolences are with you all. Craig and Valerie Clark

Dear Lynne,
Although I never had the pleasure of meeting your mother, I do know that she raised a wonderful daughter and that her legacy will live on in you and your girls. Victoria joins me to embrace each of you with much love.

We first met Marilyn at Beach & Bay Realtors in 1978 when we were new agents. Marilyn was pretty experienced at that time, but was very helpful in answering what must have seemed to her like naive & dumb questions about the business. She was always willing to share her time and experience with us. Over the years we kept in periodic contact. It was our great pleasure when Marilyn called us in early 2008 and asked us to list her home. She was very helpful and totally cooperative in making for a very smooth and easy escrow. She was a real "class act", from her professionalism, to her personality, to her needlepoint ,to her decorating, and to the pride she had in her family. We will miss her. Our sincere condolences to her family. Jim Shultz & Irene Chandler

Darling Marilyn,

We will miss your smiling, beautiful face; as will your children: Nancy, Lynn, Michael, Robert and Mark; We know that you are now with your loving Jim and Brian, and in the loving ams of Almighty God and our Blessed Mother.

We are some of the lucky ones to have had so many good times together;

Rest in peace beautiful Marilyn. We will miss you!

Gloria and Charley Melville
