RICHARD WILLIAMSON Obituary

WILLIAMSON, RICHARD "DICK" Jan. 28, 1932 to Nov. 2, 2010 Dick Williamson was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1932. After graduating high school, Dick joined the United States Navy and was sent to the Great Lakes Training Center. It was shortly after joining that he became ill with severe polio. Possibly facing the rest of his life in an iron lung, he used every bit of his emotional strength to fight back. Two years later, he was discharged from the Navy, walked out of the hospital and drove to Los Angeles, California, where he met the love of his life, Mary D. Hill. After some persistence on his part, Mary agreed to become his wife. Dick began his new career as a Radio Disc Jockey, which brought him back to Chicago. It wasn't long until he became the "Voice of Chicago" at W.C.F.L. and W.I.N.D. Radio Stations. He hosted live concerts for bands that included the Mamas & the Papas, Paul Revere and the Raiders, and Nat King Cole. After leaving radio, he and Mary began their journeys with cross country trips in their motor home deep down into Baja California, Mexico. Dick is survived by his wife, Mary; son, Steve Williamson; daughter, Linda Williamson and daughter-in-law, Alana Williamson. Services will be held Wednesday, November 10, 2010, at 11:30 a.m. at Poway-Bernardo Mortuary, Poway, CA. Arrangements by Poway-Bernardo Mortuary 858-748-4101
