I didn't know Della very long, but she touched my heart as if I knew her all my life. As we listened to Joeys band, Della gave me advice, encouragement, shared her life experiences with me and once told me the kindest comment "mom to mom"; one I will never forget. I loved her immediately. Joey and family, thank you for sharing your mom and your precious dad with all of us. They were a gift to our family.
You are in our prayers, Kelly

I got to meet Adell thru her wonderful family! She became one of my best friends with her cheerful and caring ways. She loved her family and they loved her! I am so lucky to have known her! She was a very strong woman and worked hard to take care of her family. Ernie & I and many more will miss her, but she is back with Hank and her son John. Thank You Adell for always being you!

Della was one of the sweetest people you ever met. She never forgot a birthday, she was constantly giving to others and was always welcoming to everyone. I know that she is in heaven with Hank and Johnny, but she will be missed by many here on earth. I hope Joey, Jan, Kevin, Jonathan and all those who loved her will feel God's peace.

Joey Chess

January 4, 2011

Adella Wanda Kaminski Chess
was born on January 3, 1925 in
Glen Robin, Ohio. She attended
elementary school and High
School in Akron, Ohio and
graduated from West High in
1942.
Adella was always friendly and
cheerful. Her classmates
described her as “ambitious,
friendly, considerate, social,
loving to dance, eat, and joke.”
Her chosen career at that time
was a Secretary, and this was the
career she pursued. She became
an employee for San Diego City
Schools, where she was a
secretary for several middle and
high schools for 35 years. She
also received her Real Estate
license and sold homes part time
for several years.
During her last 5 years at
Pershing Middle School she was
an executive assistant to the
Principal. She was loved by the
students as well as the faculty.
Adella met her husband of 64 years at a
Polish dance shortly after high school.
They were engaged to be married for 3
years while Hank served in the United
States Army during WWII. They were
married on August 4, 1945 and had
three children, Jan, Johnny, and Joey.
Della was a very devoted mother and
lived for her children and family. Their
joys and successes became her joy. She
absolutely adored her grandchildren,
Jonathan Joseph and Kevin James.
Della loved life and was a social
butterfly. She loved people and parties.
She opened her home to her friends,
neighbors, and family, where food and
love was always plentiful. She was a
strong and independent woman, and
was able to successfully balance
motherhood with her career.
Hank and Adell loved square dancing
and going to Las Vegas with their dear
friends, Tom and Doris. Adella also
loved watching the Padres and Chargers
with her husband. One of her greatest
joys was supporting Joey and
Kevin's band, where she became
close friends with many people
she met at their shows. She
loved listening to their CDs in
the car and at home.
Adella had an uncanny memory
for remembering everyone’s
birthdays, anniversaries, and
special occasions. She went out
of her way to acknowledge each
and everyone of them, sending
cards and gifts to her family and
friends. She was very generous
and had a huge heart. She was
the rock of the family, keeping
us all together.
Adella lived her life unselfishly
and gave herself to her family,
friends, Church and God. She
was a devout Catholic and lived
her life for God through the
guidance of the Holy Spirit. She
was a wonderful human being

Karen and I had the opportunity to meet Adella at the Wagon Wheel in Santee, California where Her son Joey is the band leader of Joey and the Sting Rays. We are so glad we were able to meet her. Joey is one of the nicest people we have ever met and most likely takes after his mother Adella.
