Alexander Sirpis Obituary

SIRPIS, ALEXANDER F. United States Marine Corps (Ret.) Sept. 18, 1920 to Sept. 21, 2008 Born in Portland, Maine, to Fotis and Melpomeni Sirpis, and graduated Deering High School 1938. Alex served in the United States Marines from 1942 through 1970, active in World War II, the Korean War, and two tours in Vietnam. Alex and his wife, Catherine, moved to San Diego, CA in 1971. Active in his community, he was the recipient of both the Rancho Bernardo Hall of Fame and Sports Hall of Fame awards. Alex is survived by Catherine, son Andy (Helene), and daughters Melanie Zahara (Ron) and Marilyn Beames (David), three grandchildren Alex and Matthew Sirpis and Erin Counihan, and four great-grandchildren Katie and Hayden Sirpis, and Lindsey and Lauren Counihan. Visitation will be Sunday, September 28, 2008, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Poway Bernardo Mortuary, Poway, CA. Graveside Services for family will be at Riverside National Cemetery.
