STERTZER, BERNARD Bernard Stertzer, age 85, died at home, in San Diego, CA, on Thursday, November 3, 2011 when God came and took him in his sleep. Born May 24, 1926, in Brooklyn, New York, he started life in the midst of the Great Depression, served the U.S. Army, and traveled the world practicing his architecture craft. His exuberance, work ethic, and passion for the Design-Build industry simply cannot be measured. His professional career dates back to 1950 a miraculous 62 years!!! And while his professional legacy will be the countless buildings he influenced with his creativity, his life's legacy is all the people that ever knew him and will tell his stories for generations to come. He was a natural athlete who played semi-professional baseball and hockey in his youth and continued to play softball and ski with great enthusiasm well into his 80s. He was a kind, caring humble man who loved his family and friends. He is survived by his wife and longtime companion, Janie, and his children, David Stertzer, of Oakton, VA, Pamela Ratliff of Issaquah, WA, Judi Paulino of San Diego, CA, his beautiful grandchildren, John, Meaghan, DeAnne, David and Jeffrey, and many friends whom he called family. Funeral services will be held at Maranatha Chapel, 10752 Coastwood Road, San Diego, CA 92127, on Friday, December 16th, at 1:00 p.m.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
