CHRISTOPHER WILSON Obituary

WILSON, CHRISTOPHER ALAN Officer Christopher Alan Wilson was born in Gary, Indiana on June 18, 1960, to James Clark Wilson (deceased) and Anne Elizabeth Myers. He grew up in Arizona, Alaska, and Rhode Island before settling in Fairlee, Vermont, where he attended Blue Mountain Union High School. A talented athlete, Chris was captain of his varsity basketball team and led them to their first state championship before graduating in 1979. He attended Worchester Academy, Lyndon State College and the University of Southern Maine where he met his future wife Tracy. Chris graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Criminology in 1985. Chris and Tracy were married on Valentine's Day in1986 and settled in San Diego. They had two children; daughter Kaylee Jeannette and son Conner David. After college, Chris took a commission in the United States Navy as an Ensign, then promoting to a Lieutenant Junior Grade and ultimately a Lieutenant. During his five years of service, Chris was a Surface Warfare Officer, Drug and Alcohol Program Advisor Officer, and an Aircraft Fuels Officer. Chris was honorably discharged in 1991 and began to pursue his dream of being a police officer. Chris joined the San Diego Police Department March 16, 1993. After Field Training, he was assigned to Southeastern Division. Chris was committed to serving as a uniformed patrol officer. He served honorably as a Special Weapons and Tactics Officer, Field Training Officer, and Peer Support Officer where he counseled other officers who had been involved in critical incidents. Shift work also allowed him to be a committed parent who was deeply involved in his children's lives. He was room parent for both his children while they attended grammar school and coached both of them in athletics during their youth. Kaylee graduated from Scripps Ranch High School in 2008 and is completing her pre-requisite courses. She plans on attending Point Loma Nazarene University and pursuing a nursing career. Conner is a senior and talented baseball player at Scripps Ranch High School and plans on playing at the collegiate level. Chris was a dedicated and loyal friend who maintained a close and special relationship with Dan Walters who as a San Diego Police Officer was shot and paralyzed in 2003. An enthusiastic sportsman, Chris was a dedicated Padres and Chargers fan and avid Celtics fan. He enjoyed scuba diving, mountain biking, fishing, weight training, and was proud to have completed the La Jolla half marathon. On October 27, 2010, Chris responded to assist the U.S. Marshalls Service and San Diego County Probation Department with serving an arrest warrant for a violent felon. While making entry into the room where the suspect was hiding, Chris' team was immediately met by gunfire and he was fatally wounded. His strong will to live allowed him to survive long enough to pass while surrounded by his loved ones on October 28, 2010. Chris will be remembered and highly regarded as a dedicated police officer who took immense pride in wearing a uniform and patrolling the streets of San Diego. He was even more proud of his family and the promise of his children. A memorial fund has been established for his children by the San Diego Police Officer's Association. Donations can be mailed to the following address: Kaylee and Conner Wilson c/o San Diego Police Officers Association, 8388 Vickers Street, San Diego, CA 92111.

I first met Chris Wilson 13 years ago as our wives worked together in the medical field. I also had the great fortune and honor to work with Chris Wilson as a San Diego Police Officer. Chris was the best of the best as he loved serving San Diego's Southeastern Community. Chris and I shared many stories about being proud parents as Chris was so proud of his daughter Kaylee and son Connor. Chris will be missed and he can never be replaced. May God bless Chris and may God bless and watch over the Chris Wilson Family. Chris is a HERO and his WATCH has ended. May he now Rest In Peace.

Dearest Wilson family, I was saddened to learn of Chris's untimely death especially when consideration of the young family he left behind. My brother Scott(pictured immediately to the right of Chris - Oxbow photo)and I grew up in Fairlee also. I was a grade ahead of Chris and remember him well as being forever cheerful, a great athlete and always considerate of others. Though many of us have not remained in touch over the years, I know we all feel a tremendous loss. I will always be grateful for having known him. My thoughts and prayers to his mom and family.

Kaylee and Conner ~
My deepest sypmpathies to you both for the tragic lose of your Father. I attended high school with your father at Oxbow Union in Bradford, Vermont for 3 yrs. 1976 , 77 and 78. He was a Jr. and I a Sr. I have added a photo of your Dad from my 1978 yearbook. I want to share with you that your Father clearly continued to be the man he was in the 70's throughout his life from all I've read about him since his tragic death.
Your Dad was the nicest guy in school. He had such presence.. of course he did with his height and atheletic build. He treated everone with respect and kindness, even as a 15 yr old young man you knew the man he would become, he was a friend to all, he had NO enemies. He was an amazing athelete , a joy to watch. Oxbow always had the upper hand with your Dad on the court or field. I had no idea your Dad and I ended up in the same state, I wish I had , I would have looked him up. Conner I saw a news clip on line of you, your Mom and your sister. YOU are a clone of your father as I remember him in 1978. Not only do you look like him you walk like him and carry yourself as your Father did. I remember your Grandmother Anne also attending your Dad's sports events . Such a nice women so proud of her son. Clearly ,even then she had much to be proud of !!!! Yes ,as your Dad's obit. states he did graduate from Blue Mtn Union High School in Wells River , Vt. he went there his senior year. I can remember Blus Mtn taking State Championship that year ,their first in the history of the high school as his obiturary also states and I remember asking my brothers how ? They responded with "Chris Wilson" transferred there his senior year !!! That said it all. I cannot imagine your lose. I had not seen your Dad in 30 plus years and my heart broke as I realised I went to school with the Officer in San Diego . Truly the Lord takes the finest to be at his side and our guardian angels forward. Have no doubt he is always with you and will witness all your accomplishments and happiest events of your lives . My deepest sympathies.

God bless the Wilson Family. I knew Chris for such a short period but I was fortunate to have the opportunity to talk to him in-depth about his family, life, job and beliefs. He was a first class man.

He loved his children, respected and loved Tracy, loved his job, his recreational pursuits and cared deeply about his community. He helped the homeless, the less fortunate, stood by his friends, and cared for those he met for the first time.

Since Chris's death, the Chargers have won, and Conner, so have the Celtics and Lakers :)

My grateful lesson from Chris is he was a positive bolt of lightening, a good lite. What we can all learn from Chris is to be positive and be a better person. Thanks Chris for the great lessons you gave all of us.

We know your spirit lives on.

My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Wilson Family. As a daughter of a retired SDPD Officer; I appreciate the service that Office Wilson provided for the City of San Diego. I was fortunate enough to encounter Officer Wilson 7 years ago speeding to my sister's house, after learning that she had passed away. I was pulled over by officer Wilson. After explaing my reason for speeding he was very caring, compasionate and consoling. He stayed with me and followed my to my sisters house to make sure I made it there safely. RIP Officer Wilson. God Bless you and your Family, Sincerely

I served with Chris Wilson on USS DENVER (LPD-9) in the late 80's, he an officer in the Air Department, and I an enlisted man in the Medical Department. Although our paths crossed only occasionally, I remember him as focused, intense, outgoing, and dedicated to his job. He took care of his Sailors, and he earned their deep respect. The world is a lesser place without him.
