EMILY VARHOLA Obituary

VARHOLA, EMILY LUCILLE Sept. 23. 1904 to Dec. 22, 2010 Emily Lucille Varhola went to be with the Lord on December 22nd, at the age of 106. She was born on September 23, 1904, in Carona, New York, and moved with her parents to San Diego in 1920. She was the first of six sisters and two brothers born to Giuseppe and Teresa Stanzione. Together with her husband and sisters, she enjoyed bowling, playing bingo and cards. The secret to her longevity - working hard all her life! Emily loved her family. We will all miss her warm smiles, kind words, and the delicious meals she prepared. She was a hard working woman with experience running apartments, grocery stores, restaurants, and bars during her early years. Emily was preceded in death by her husband, Peter, son, Henry Ladomade, four sisters, Rose Easley, Anne Ott, Mary Pauter, Helen Eaton and two brothers, Pasquale Stanzione and Louis Stanzione. She is survived by one sister, Gloria Scagliotti (Roy), one son, Peter E. Varhola (Nancy) of Spring Valley, two daughters, Gloria Powell of La Mesa, Linda Johnson (Bob) of Albuquerque, New Mexico, one daughter-in-Iaw, Luisa Ladomade of Hollywood, and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. A gathering will be held at Greenwood Mortuary Salli Lynn Chapel at 4 p.m. to 8 p.m, Tuesday, December 28, 2010. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at Saint Martin's Catholic Church, La Mesa. Graveside services will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, San Diego, CA. Those who wish to make a memorial contribution are requested to do so to the charity of their choice.
