After retirement Esther volunteered in my preschool classroom at La Mesa Dale Elementary School. She came almost every day for seven years. The children loved her and called her Grandma. Her own grand children Lorie and Matthew were enrolled in preschool classes and Autumn visited our class during the time Esther volunteered. She used her artistic talents to enhance the classroom environment and curriculum. Her contributions to the class were endless. She was presented with a "Rose Award" by the La Mesa /Spring Valley School District for her outstanding volunteer work. Like the children who she helped learn cut with scissors and write their names, I learned from her. We made May baskets and filled them with flowers to hang on the doors of other classroom using many of the flowers from her garden. She will live on for me in the lovely pink Simplicity rose bushes which she gave me to match my china. She was a person who touched my life in many beautiful ways.

My sympathy and condolences to the family of Esther. My memories are of her taking me to Vacation Bible School each summer. She introduced me to the Lord, which has helped me throughout my life. I was the next door neighbor girl, DeAnn. My prayers are with the family.

Thank you both for sharing precious memories of my grandma. She always talked about her memories of teaching and she remembered many of her students!

Mrs.Mize was my master teacher in 1972 at Cleveland Elementary . She was inspiring. Her manner with children was kind and encouraging while always requiring best effort and good manners from each student. She was creative and she allowed children to explore their own creativity. Learning was fun in Mrs. Mize's room. At the end of my time with Mrs. Mize she gifted me with a beautiful fingerpaint box filled with a collection of handmade fingerpaint bulletin board letters. I used those lovely colorful letters many times in my own thirty years in the classroom. Mrs. Mize touched many lives with her kindness. I wish her family well and extend my sympathy at this time of loss.

I have very fond memories of my 3rd grade year at Valencia Park Elementary thanks to Mrs. Mize. I remember being chosen to play her autoharp during music and it was something everyone in the class looked forward to! Her kind and patient manner made her classroom fun and her positive influence during my early years has benefited me all my life! I want to extend my sympathy to her family at her passing.

Sincerely,

Danna Patterson Dyke
