EUGENE CARTER KLABO

KLABO, EUGENE CARTER Dec. 20, 1929 to July 21, 2010 Resident of Chula Vista - Gene, the fourth of 7 siblings was born on a farm in Sharon, N. Dakota of parents, Clarence and Selma Klabo. Following a stint in the Navy, he was employed at Honeywell in Minneapolis. In 1958, Gene relocated to the San Diego area and spent the next several years in the defense and auto retail industries. After retiring, he and Arlie toured the U.S., as Gene pursued an interest in exploring old wagon trails of the West and inspecting antebellum plantations in the South. Gene's true passion involved management of "The South Bay Pioneers," a facility dedicated to helping people battling substance abuse. This association lasted well over 40 years during which time he held most of the elective positions in the organization. Calling on his experience in AA, he was often called upon to speak at functions addressing those subjects and doing fund raising. Gene's crisp wit and humor will be sorely missed. Gene leaves a wife, Arlie of 45 years, a brother Richard and sisters, Shirley Kantrud of Chula Vista, Coralie Haarala and Linda Gonier of Minneapolis. Memorial services will be held at the South Bay Pioneers on October 24th, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations should go to South Bay Pioneers.
