GERALDINE SANKS Obituary

SANKS, GERALDINE E. March 17, 1920 to Nov. 28, 2010 Our beloved Mom, Grandma, Aunt, and friend, Geraldine Sanks of La Mesa passed into Heaven on November 28th after a long illness. She was preceded in death (1978) by the love of her life, her adoring husband Roy A. Sanks. She is survived by their four sons, Roy Robert, Ron of Las Vegas, Rick and wife Kathie of San Diego, Randy and wife Suzanne of La Mesa, grandchildren Tracy Peach of Alpine (husband Monte), John and Tiffany Sanks of La Mesa, great-grand-son Colton Peach, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Gerrie was raised in Peoria, Illinois, and went to work at an early age in her father's grocery store, Hausams Market. While performing in a high school play she met Roy, who was working as a stage hand. They were married in Pasadena, CA, in January 1942 where Roy had been sent by the Army just prior to being shipped out for World War II. During the war years, Mom returned to Peoria to work at Caterpillar Co. in the "Tank Turret" office. Gerrie and Roy were apart throughout the war, and did not see each other again until he returned home in 1945. They moved to San Diego in 1950 and eventually settled in the College area where together they raised their family. Gerrie was a gentle and loving Mom that always had time for her boys, taking them to School, Little League practice, Scout meetings, and all the other activities that boys do. Through the years she hosted many a swim party, numerous family parties, as well as impromptu gatherings of her sons and their friends at the house. She was dedicated to her extended family as well, and always gave of herself to those that were sick or needed help. In her latter life she continued to enjoy her family, particularly her grandchildren. She loved taking family trips to Las Vegas, playing the slots, and watching the Chargers and Padres. Her nickname was "Lucky Lady" in the football pool and her favorite saying, right up until her very last day on earth was, "I never give up, I never give up". She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Rest easy now Mom. Your work here is done and you will always be remembered and appreciated for the love and dedication you gave to your sons, family, and friends. There will be a memorial service, Thursday, December 9th, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, 1945 Illion St., San Diego, CA 92110 . In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations please be made to: Rady Children's Hospital, in the name of Geraldine Sanks, located at 3020 Children's Way, San Diego, CA 92123, or www.sdkids.org/tribute, or call 1-858-966-7749.

Although I did not know Mrs. Sanks well, I heard many good things about her from my dear friend, Annette. My husband, Dick, and I are very sorry for your loss.
