HERBERT GROOT Obituary

GROOT, HERBERT S. May 8,1912 to June 6, 2011 Herbert Stanley Groot passed away on June 6th at the age of 99. He was born on May 8, 1912 in Cleveland, Ohio Herbert moved with his family to a farm in Pennsylvania at the age of nine and then to Toledo, Ohio at the age of 16. He married Lucy Bennett his loving wife of 56 years on July 26, 1930 who predeceased him in death. Herbert moved to San Diego in 1955 with Lucy and three of their four children and two grandsons. He is survived by his four children, Herbert Groot of Sugar Land, TX.(Marilyn), Marilyn Smith of Escondido, CA, Wilbur Groot of Fowler, CO, (Lucille) and Thomas Groot of San Diego, CA (Marilyn), one brother Thomas LeGrand Groot of Charlottesville, VA. He is also survived by six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by one grandson. While in San Diego Herbert worked as a machinist at Ryan Aeronautical and Tice Engineering. He also worked for the Astronautics and the Convair divisions of General Dynamics. Herbert was known by his family as a hard working Christian devoted to supporting his family and to worshiping God all his life. Services will be held on Thursday, June 16th, at The Church of Christ LDS San Diego 12th Ward, 4741 Mt. Abernathy Ave., Viewing at 10:00 a.m. followed by service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the above church, Attn: Humanitarian fund or your favorite charity.
