JIMMIE HOWARD Obituary

HOWARD, JIMMIE, L. Jimmie passed away suddenly from heart failure on Christmas morning, 2010. Born October 2, 1951, in San Diego, CA, he was one of seven children of Jimmie and Theresa Howard. Jimmie was a lettered athlete at Point Loma HS. He met Colette Jaggard while working at his first job, John Hine Pontiac, in 1972, and they married in 1975. They were blessed with a daughter, Nicole. Jimmie had a warm heart and greeted all who entered his home with a smile. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Jimmie is survived by his wife Colette, daughter Nicole, sisters Yvette, Yvonne, Barbara, Linette, Darlene and brother Joseph, seven nephews, one niece and too many loving friends to mention here. A memorial service for Jim will be held Saturday, January 8, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. aboard the guided missile destroyer USS Jimmie E. HOWARD, (DDG-83), named for his father, a Marine Corps Medal Of Honor recipient. All Persons wishing to attend the memorial aboard the ship at the 32nd Naval Base, must pre-register their car in advance. Colette and Nicole:
What a beautiful ceremony and tribute to Jim. He was a great husband, father and friend as was witnessed by all those that were in attendance for his memorial. Greg and I feel fortunate to have known him and his infectious laughter and caring ways. He was always there willing to help with our winter ball teams and Greg's vehicles. You are both in our prayers and thoughts and please know we are always here for you should you need us or just want to talk.

We have been in complete shock and can't imagine the pain you're all going through. We feel so fortunate to have spent the time with Jimmie and everyone in Oregon. That was so much fun and so special. Jimmie's zest for life is something to remember and honor him by. He will forever live in our hearts. Our deepest condolences to everyone. Colette and Nicole,
Since my very first day at BCS, Jim made me feel so welcome. I'll never forget meeting him, and what an impression he made on me. We became immediate friends and shared so many laughs. Jim had so much integrity, he cared so much about his job, and his employees. He was such a kindhearted and gentle man. I know you miss him dearly, as do all of us that knew him. Christmas will never be the same at my home.

Collette, I grew up in Ocean Beach/ Point Loma area, and attended school with Jimmie. I have not seen Jimmie or his family, however, I do remember them as good folks. Jimmie was a funny, and a kind man, always had good words for people. I'm sure he will be missed. Sincerely,
