JOSE SOARES MONIZ

MONIZ, JOSE SOARES July 4, 1915 to October 12, 2010 Jose Soares Moniz was born on July 4, 1915 in Santa Cruz Das Ribeiras, Pica, Azores, Portugal. He passed away on October 12, 2010 in San Diego, California surrounded by his loving family. Jose was only 12 years old when he started working at sea as a whaler fisherman. He also worked on a boat that traveled between the islands of Portugal. Jose and Analia moved to the San Diego Tuna Fishing Community in Point Loma in 1951. He worked in the tuna fishing industry until his retirement in 1981. After retirement, Joe and Analia traveled back to Portugal numerous times and visited many European countries. His greatest love and pleasure was spending time with his family and practicing his faith in God through prayer. He also had a passion for watching his favorite soccer team, Futobol Club Porto. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Analia Noemia. Jose is survived by his son Joseph and daughter Lena McDowell, seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and several other relatives and friends. As the patriarch of our family, he will be truly missed. The Rosary and Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Cross Chapel on Monday, October 18, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. with interment following services.
