JOSEPHINE BERIGAN Obituary

BERIGAN, JOSEPHINE SEBETIC "JOSIE" January 11, 1921 to Oct. 1, 2010 Cherished wife, Mother, and friend, "Josie" was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin. She was strong, vibrant, independent, even willful when young, proud of her clerical work with the Board of Education in Kenosha as well as the acquisition of her very own roadster car. In the mid-1950s, she met Francis M. "Chuck" Berigan, a rather raffish Chief Petty Officer six years her junior. They married, and had one son, Charlie. Josie became a career serviceman's wife, following her husband to Texas, California, Subic Bay/the Philippines, then California again. Josie preferred San Diego to all other places, and lived for 44 years in the same house in Chula Vista, passing away in her home following a long illness. Josie was a very private person, and quite religious in her way, her copy of "The Keys of the Kingdom" never far from her reach. She loved great films of the past that featured such musical stars as Deanna Durbin and dramatic leads such as Margaret Sullavan. In healthier times, she also enjoyed cooking and knitting. Josie was predeceased by LCDR F.M. Berigan on January 15, 2006. She is survived by one sister, Helen Hunt of Stevens Point, Wis. and her son. The family would like to thank Ramon, D'Anne, Lori, Sean, Erin, McKenna, John and Nancy, Neil and Jody, and the Sharp Hospice team in Josie's final weeks. There will be a private interment at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery on December 8, 2010, and a memorial for both Josie and Chuck at Norman Park Center, 270 F St., Chula Vista, CA, 619-691-5086 at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 11, 2010.
