JACOBS, KATHY formerly KATHY CHOWANIAK Oct. 24, 1939 to Oct. 13, 2010 Born on October 24, 1939, in Peoria, Illinois, to Minnie and Allen Cullen and died at age 70 on October 13, 2010, at the San Diego Hospice in San Diego, California of kidney failure. Kathy is survived by her partner of 39 years, Charlie Taub of San Diego, CA, brother David Cullen of Carlsbad, CA, sister Barbara Butler of San Marcos, CA, and grandchildren Karl Miller, Glenn Miller, and Diane Miller of San Diego, CA. She was preceded in death by her only child, Joan T. Miller (Joan T. Chowaniak), who died on September 27, 2010. Kathy was raised and educated in Peoria, IL, graduating from Sipp Elementary School in 1953, Woodruff High School in 1957, and Saint Francis School of Nursing in 1966. Kathy worked as a R.N. for over 40 years in Medical ICU, Surgical ICU, Coronary Care, Hemodialysis, Radiology, Blood Donation and Apheresis, and Tele-medicine Triage. Kathy started her nursing career at Saint Francis Medical Center, Peoria, IL. She continued her career at Zeller Zone Mental Health Center, Peoria, IL, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago, IL, Alvarado Hospital Medical Center, San Diego, CA, Scripps Clinic's Green Hospital, San Diego, CA, UCSD Medical Center, San Diego, CA, the San Diego Blood Bank, Escondido, CA, and Kaiser Permanente's KP On Call, San Diego, CA. Kathy's volunteer activities included the San Diego Police Department's Reserve Senior Volunteer Patrol (RSVP) and Tierrasanta Satellite office, County of San Diego Family Justice Center, Learning Disabilities Association of San Diego, Springall Academy, and the San Diego Turtle and Tortoise Society. In accordance with Kathy's wishes, no funeral or memorial services were held. In lieu of flowers or donations, Kathy asked that her family and friends do two acts of random kindness each year.
