To the family of Lillian Parra,

I knew Lil from my first years at the San Diego Opera and I could immediately discern that she was a very special person, innately kind, gentle, and helpful. I continued my association with the opera for many years and she was always one of the first persons I looked for when I returned to town. I always felt we had a special bond.

I am truly sorry to hear that this great lady has left us. I know that she is missed by the many people with whom she came into contact. May her soul rest in peace.

Good-bye, dear lady.

To Lil's family,

I was so sorry to hear, belatedly, of Lil's passing. She was a truly wonderful and joyous person and I will always remember & cherish having crossed paths with her. Though most all my 20+ years at San Diego Opera were spent "out on the road", I always made a point of stopping to see Lil on my times in the office. She always made my day! I hope you had some good times together during her all-too-short retirement -- although she was never the "retiring" type! Lil was just splendid! That photo you have posted says it all.

Dear Pam, Tony and Barbara,
Aunt Lillian was a second mom to me when I was living with you in Imperial Beach. She taught me many things, one was how to be a loving and caring person. I was very fortunate to have been able to see her this past summer at the family picnic and visit with her. She was a wonderful person and I will miss her very much. If you need to talk please call at 360-448-7620 anytime. Love you all, your cousin Sharon (Vancouver, WA)

Dear Barbara, Tony, and Pam,

Your Mom was one of the most beloved and generous individuals I have ever known. To see her PT flame-striped Cruiser in the the parking lot was to know that everything was OK upstairs---Lil' was on the job. And she was always MORE than on the job. She took a genuine and special interest in each person with whom she interacted. She knew the names of our family members, our pets, what our interests were; she simply and amazingly cared. Lil was here when I arrived for the first time at San Diego Opera----in June of 1980. There wasn't anything I couldn't ask her; she would patiently and painstakingly explain until it was understood. She had an unbelievably strong and admirable work ethic and was meticulous in everything she did here. She clearly adored her family and her children most of all---and it was such fun hearing her describe her latest trip (particularly to anything Disney!) and warming to the spirit to realize that most of those trips were taken in the company of one or more of those children she loved so much. Imagine, in this day and age, grown children who repeatedly choose to spend their free time with a parent---and vice versa! I found that touching and wonderful. I miss her terribly and am so utterly blessed to have had her in my life. I only wish I could have spent more "quality time" with her and learned more of her lessons.

Thank you for sharing her with us all those years. She is irreplaceable...as you three know most of all.

To Lil’s Family,

Lil was ‘One of a Kind’. I worked with Lil for about 10 years. Over those wonderful years of working together, we became fast friends. Lil’s team-player work ethic was as strong as her dedication to the company. Lil was so proud of her family; she always spoke with such pride and always glowed when she talked about her daughters and son, her grandchildren, or her trips that she took with her family. I feel so blessed to have known Lil, to have worked with Lil, to have had such a truly kind and trust worthy friend, and to have known someone who taught me what life was all about – “show up, do your best, stay positive and everything will be okay”. I miss you so much, Lil. Thanks for being part of my life. I will draw strength from our time together and remember you with so much love.

Lil was one of the very first people I met when I started at San Diego Opera and I knew right away that she was special. She knew everything about the machinery that made the company run and was always generous and wise with her counsel. But what made her special was her generosity of spirit and her kindness of soul. It was always a pleasure to arrive at the office early and spend some time chatting with Lil before the day overtook us. she was a good friend and I miss her, and I know everyone else who had the privilege of knowing her will miss her too.

I have known Lil, well, not really known but enjoyed Lil for 17 seasons. She is all those things one would wish would be said on your own passing: delightful, humorous, kind, generous, smart, strong, hard working. It is lonely to look in at her desk, to touch the jar of twizzlers and jellybeans; lonely not to see the PT Cruiser come swinging out of the parking garage. We at the Opera will all miss her, but we are all the better for having known her.

Dear Lil's Family,

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I worked with Lil at SDO for about the past 5 years. She was vey generous, especially when it came time for my 3:00 sugar craving:) Her red vines saved my day many times. I miss her and I want you to know how much she meant to everyone here at the office. Love and best wishes always!!

Dear Lil,
From the day I walked into the offices of San Diego Opera until the day I left, you were there. You were always kind, insightful and willing to try new things. I found peace from the ever-changing, frantic world around us in the Zen tranquility of your files, always properly sequenced. It may sound strange, but not much in life shows so much patience and consistency.

Dear Barb and family,

I want to join all my former colleagues at San Diego Opera and send condolences to you and everyone who knew and loved Lil. She was an amazing, strong-willed and fun-loving person, and I enjoyed every moment of working with her during my six years at SDOpera. Please know that you're in my thoughts at this difficult time, and I send you my very best wishes.

Dear Barb, Pam Tony, and grandchildren,
Lil was our beloved neighbor for 10 years here on Park Villa Drve, and we are deeply saddened to hear of her passing. Our pleasure was getting to know her and her family over the years, sharing laughter and stories, and many Halloweens. She was an exceptional neighbor and person, who was always kind, considerate, and giving. She will be greatly missed. Our thoughts are with all of you at this time,

Dear Pam, Barbara, Tony and families, My heart goes out to you and my prayers are with you all. Lil was such a spunky, fun woman who lived life to its fullest – who else would paint flames on her car?! I truly enjoyed talking with her about our shared love of Oregon and mystery novels. All of us at San Diego Opera will miss Lil so much! She was a delight and a joy! Lil always inquired about my three children and had terrific stories about her three when they were little. When I brought in roses from my garden, Lil would tell me wonderful stories about growing roses in her Portland garden. She was fun-loving and treated all of us as if we were her family! I'm forever grateful for having had the chance to work alongside Lil at San Diego Opera!

Dear Pam, Barbara, Tony & Families-
I cannot remember a time when my heart "hurt" as much as it does now. Your mom is a "one-in-a-million" lady, a very "special" lady. She is compassionate, loving, funny and a "true friend". I will miss watching the sunrises with her here at work, she with her cup of tea, I with my cup of coffee.....in total silence watching the sun peek over the horizon. We'd get excited when we could see the "flat topped mountain" in Mexico. I especially will miss our Saturday lunches after she retired, when we could "hang out" as long as we wanted with no "1 hour limit". We'd exchange books and magazines, all the latest in each others' lives, talk and talk, and just enjoy each others' company. I will miss her forever.
My heart, thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Love,
Andrea
