LUCAS MARIN Obituary

MARIN JR., LUCAS "LUKE" Feb. 6, 1934 to Jan. 7, 2011 Luke succumbed quietly to cancer on Friday evening with family members by his side. Also known as Junie to family and friends, he was the fifth of six children born to Maria Damian Marin and Lucas Marin, Sr. He was born, grew up, and lived most of his adult life in National City. After graduating from Sweetwater High School, he joined the Marine Corps. to fight in the Korean War. After his Honorable Discharge, Lucas returned home and became a longtime roofer in the county, eventually starting his own company, SoCal Roofing, in 1980. Lucas loved camping, fishing and building models. He was a gifted artist whose passions included wood carving, painting and detailed pencil drawings. Luke was a humble man with a tough exterior but a gentle soul, who extended acceptance, generosity, and kindness to all who knew him. Lucas was a loving father to his three children from his first marriage, Debbie, Dan, and Christopher. He remarried and leaves behind his loving wife of 27 years, Stephanie. In addition to his wife and children, Luke is survived by sister Tillie, brothers Jesus and Manuel, uncle "Toke", 12 grandchildren (from both his marriages), numerous nieces and nephews, and other family and friends. He will be greatly missed. A Celebration of Life to honor Luke's memory will be held at New Seasons Church, 2300 Bancroft Dr., Spring Valley, CA 91977 (Ph. 619-463-0725) on Thursday, January 20th, at 6:00 p.m. Service will be in the Sanctuary. I miss you so much. I woke in the middle of the night last night wanting to tell you something and you weren't here.

I will never forget how when I would call over looking for Dan if I did not pronounce the last name correctly you would say, "Dan who? Nobody here by that name." until I did pronounce "Marin" correctly :-) Christmas Eve's will not be the same without you. Love and miss you. Tina Marin (yes, I am rolling the "r") Ramona, Ca.

My father was a man who embraced simplicity. Yet I knew him to be a great man. Never an unkind word. Always accepting, always loving. I miss him dearly.
