MAUREEN LIPTON Obituary

LIPTON, MAUREEN Oct. 5, 1938 to Dec. 28, 2010 Loving mother, Maureen (Mattes) Lipton was, in early life, a habitué of the New Orleans Jazz scene. Always with a joke, she would light up a room, cook a raging gumbo, shimmy on the dance floor, yell for her son to "hit a home run for your mommy" at the little league game. She worked as a mother, a model and a travel agent. In recent years, although somewhat hampered by a stroke, she would push her wheel chair back and forth to the sounds of the Pete Fountain jazz band, a gleam in her eye. Raised in New Orleans and a longtime San Diego resident, she still said "y'all" to a room full of one. She is survived by her children, Daniel, Julie, Richard, and Robert, her two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Graveside services will be held at El Camino Memorial Park, San Diego , noon, January 5th. Call Angeleno Mortuary for more information: (818) 778 1788. Our deepest condolences to the Lipton family. Your mother suffered so much, for so long, but, even so, her passing comes as a shock. Our hearts are with you.

Dear Rob and family, so sorry to hear of your Mom's death. She sounds like a wonderful woman....a beautiful soul, someone I would love to have met and enjoyed sharing music and dancing with. Wishing you all (or y'all!) peace during this time.

Dear Robby, Ricky, Danny, and Julie: I was very sad to hear the news about your mom. It wasn't too long ago that Robby, Ricky, and I corresponded sharing some wonderful childhood memories. We shared backyards and I remember your mom being the coolest "carpool mom." She was beautiful inside and out. Our memories will linger as long as we are alive.
Since we cannot attend the funeral, we will attend shul this Shabbat to pay our personal respects from far away.
All the love from our family to yours.

I was saddened to hear about the death of your mother. I have such great memories of her. She was a wonderful friend and a beautiful woman. You all were very young and our families spent many occasions together, when you lived in Del Cerro.

My thoughts and prayers and with you.
