OWEN HALL Obituary

HALL Jr., OWEN S. Owen S. Hall Jr., known to friends as Stuart, passed away peacefully at home on December 27, 2010, of complications from a stroke. He was 87 years old. Jane, his best friend and beloved wife of 62 years was at his side. Stuart was born on May 16, 1923 in Malden, Massachusetts to Gladys and Owen Hall. He served in the U.S. Navy for three years during World War II. Upon discharge, he entered the University of Buffalo from which he graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor's Degree in mechanical engineering. After working for several years at Bell Aircraft in Buffalo, New York, he moved his family to San Diego in 1950 and took a position at General Dynamics. After a long and successful career, he retired from General Atomic in 1986. He was a remarkable man with an incredible zest for life. His many passions included fishing in Mexico with his friends, gardening and classical music. A past member of the Lapidary Society, he had a great interest in gems and minerals. He especially loved living in beautiful San Diego. He will be dearly missed by his many friends and adoring family. In addition to his wife Jane, he is survived by his daughter Victoria and husband Albert, daughter Jennifer and husband David, beloved granddaughter Julia, brother Robert and wife Ann, nephews Robert and Peter. He will be interred with military honors following a private service at Singing Hills Memorial Park in San Diego. A celebration of his life is being planned for late January. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to Sharp Hospice Care, P. O. Box 1750, La Mesa, Calif., 91944.

Stu was my dearest friend Vickie's father, so that meant he was dear to me as well. Though I didn't get to see him that often, he was always in my thoughts and will continue to be. He will be missed.

Grandpa, i love you. i know you were the one that was always asking about me, how i was doing? how was school? how are sports? You are the one that always and still cares. My grandpa was someone that could never be replaced. I'm happy your suffering is over now, but it still hurts my heart that you are gone from this realm. Everyone tells me that I am the one you adored the most, and i believe it. I love you forever and ever Grandpa, you're a part of the soul of the world now.

In 1978 I met Stuart and we began a friendship that lasted to the very last day of his time here on earth. He gave me great counsel, support, and steadfast friendship throughout each of our 32 years. We traveled for 13 years to the Baja with a host of "Baja Buddys" fishing in the Sea of Cortez. Stu helped me catch my first Marlin, Swordfish and Dorado. We snorkeled in Fiji. He taught by example with his gentle, wise ways and direct communication. He was smart, super smart; and kind, super kind. His influence on my life will not be forgotten. Loyalty was important to Stu, one of the things he admired most in a person. Best Buddy Forever! With Gratitude for all the Fun and Friendship.

Uncle Stuey was a friend and awesome traveling companion. I had the pleasure of many trips to the Baja for fishing and sun in the fun with him and his group of Baja Buddies. He also traveled to Fiji with our group and he said it was one of his favorite spots in the world, also had the priviliege of spending time in Costa Rica with him. He surely did LOVE to travel and see new places. He will be fondly remembered as a gentle, grand man and it was my pleasure to have known him.
