PETE CALTAGIRONE Obituary

CALTAGIRONE, PETE Pete Caltagirone, of La Mesa, and longtime San Diegan, died on December 3, 2010, at age 101. Beloved husband, Father, and Grandfather, and Great-Grand-father. Peter was born September 13,1909 in Saratoga, NY. In 1940 he married Lena Caronna and moved to San Diego. He worked for Convair Aircraft Corp. for 20 years. Also Rohr Aircraft for an additional 10 years. At 65, he worked at the Sports Arena and Jack Murphy Stadium as an usher. Also at Del Mar Race Track and fair grounds that lasted 25 years. He retired at age 90. Pete loved music and ballroom dancing, which he and his wife enjoyed and became members of the 30-40 Dance Club. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge #1812 and Convair Alumni Club. Pete and his wife Lena traveled and did cruise ship trips often. He was married to Lena for 70 years. He is survived by his wife Lena, daughters, Marian Herron and Carole Gancitano. He had five grandchildren, Chris, Dane, Lisa, Vito and Gina, and eight great-grandchildren. Service will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, 4470 Hilltop Dr., San Diego, 92102, followed by the Interment. All family and friends are invited to attend. Flowers are appreciated. Contributions can be made to Doheny Eye Institute 1450 San Pablo St. DEI-3050, Los Angeles, CA 90033-4697.
