RAYMOND NOBIS Obituary

NOBIS, RAYMOND HOWARD Ray Nobis passed away on September 21, 2010 at the age of 85. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Ray graduated from St. Lawrence University in New York and then joined the U.S. Air Force where he bravely served his country for 20 years as a pilot. After retirement, Ray found great joy serving as a volunteer for the San Diego Air and Space Museum. He was most proud of his work on the beautiful Gee Bee racer which is on display in the museum. Ray achieved thirty-seven years of sobriety through AA and regularly attended meetings with his "Triple Threat" buddies at the Veteran's Village of San Diego. Many have shared how much Ray helped them to achieve and maintain their own sobriety. His courage, dignity, and sense of humor were an inspiration to all. Ray is survived by his wife of 20 years, Diane, his children, Susan, Nicki, Jeff, his step-children, Jane and John, his brother David, eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Ray is missed more than we can express. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, September 29, 2010, at 2:00 p.m., in the chapel of the First Presbyterian Church, 320 Date Street, San Diego, California. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Veterans Village of San Diego, 4141 Pacific Highway, San Diego, CA 92110.

We will all miss Ray. My Father Burt (Jay) felt very close to Ray. He enjoyed Ray's personal delivery of the newspaper every morning. Our thoughts and prayers for your family during this difficult time.
