Rest in peace my friend

January 9, 2011

ROBERTO,

What will we do without your stories and jokes? A fun loving Man he was.

As a customer of MexiCocina from day one, simply the most consistent and excellent food there is, with friendly hard working employees making your visit a pleasant experience.

The Cantina expansion was his pride and joy, which brought local residents to visit more often, chat with old friends and make new ones.

My memories of Roberto are endless, but one really said what the Man was all about. When Gale Glasser and Mike lost their home in Scripps Ranch from the fires, I started a fund raiser and went to all the places where Gale and Mike knew people, asking for donations to help them get back on their feet. Roberto gave me a check for $1,000. I was shocked and asked him "why so much?" He replied, "GOD has been very good to me Joe."

To the family and friends of this wonderful Man, don't be sad, be happy you where blessed to have him in your life.

I wrote an entry soon after I learned of my cousin's passing and didn't know what to say. Now that a few days have passed, I have been remembering the good times we had. My cousin was always upbeat and joking, even when we were kids. Robert was more like my older brother, our families were always close. My cousin Robert, Lourdes together with Paco and Lupe have been the force that kept us a united family and with that ingredient we have grown older, but still a family together. I'll miss Robert's story telling and his joy and excitement for life. He was a caring loveable guy who loved adventure. I will remember him with sadness in my heart and joy he is resting in peace.

We will all miss Robert's great stories and sense of humor. He was a very generous man with a huge heart. There will definitely be a big void at MexiCocina without him. If there's a Porsche Club in Heaven we know he's already a member!
R.I.P Robert.

Tio Roberto, you were the best storyteller, a lover of life and so very generous. I can still hear your voice and will miss your laughter. Love you and will miss you!

Our entire family knew Robert in his early years when he first arrived. I remember my brother (Frank Parra) and Robert along with several other "close" friends were always hanging out at our house in San Ysidro listening to the latest "45 record hits". God Bless his family at this time. Connie Andrade, Marcie Parra, Norma Cosio, Tencha Garcia.

So sorry to hear about this he was a real friend of all of us at MVHS. I wish he could have made it to the fifty year reunion of our class of 59 or the class of 60. We will all miss him. Like John Van Pelt said the last time I also saw him was at the reunion of our class about ten years ago. We should all stay in touch and share the moments we have left. He will be remembered dearly. I shared a lot of good times with him along with everyone else at MVHS.

I have Lots of fond memories of my Uncle Robert. I got to travel to Mexico and see the pyramids and meet members of our family when I was 8 years old. I will definitely miss his sense of humor, his nicknames for everyone, his kindness, generosity and support. He was the Best joke teller and just enjoyed life!!! I am comforted by the promise that I will see him again someday and knowing he is with our Heavenly Father. Monica Coffey San Diego, CA

I first met Bob in the late 1950's when he first moved to San Ysidro. He picked me up one morning from the school bus stop and on the way to school we made a connection. He was part of our "gang" Art, Ruben, Johnny, Frank, Adam, Ricardo, Me and others that I cannot remember at this time. Last saw him at the resturant a few years ago. Have a pix of him, me, Ruben, Johnny and Frank at our reunion about 10 yrs ago. Rest in peace my friend, wish I had stayed in closer contact. John Van Pelt
