RODGER AXELSON Obituary

AXELSON, RODGER SPENCER Rodger Spencer Axelson passed away on Monday, September 27, 2010. He was born on September 6, 1941 in Oak Park, IL and grew up in Park Ridge, IL and Atlanta, GA with his older brother, sister and twin brother. He served in the Navy including two years duty on the USS Wasp (CVS-18). In December 1965 Rodger and Lorna Rammon were married in Chicago. They moved to Atlanta, GA where Rodger graduated from Georgia State College with Honors in 1967. Rodger's work as sales rep for Fenwal division of Baxter Labs took him to Seattle, WA. Employment with IVAC as Sales Manager and International Sales Manger brought moves to Annapolis, MD, Northwood, Middlesex, England and finally the IVAC home office San Diego. Rodger lived in Olivenhain with his family. Rodger then became Marketing Manger for start up companies Diatek, Vitalmetrics Inc., and Intramed all based in San Diego. Rodger had a unique ability to establish and train a sales force for the small start up company introducing new medical and surgical technologies. In retirement he lived in Battle Ground, WA. Rodger will be remembered as always being ready for a fun time and a good story. He was proud that he could take on any remodel or construction project, and in his later years spent his summers on his land near Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada single handedly building a log cabin. Rodger is survived by wives Lorna Axelson Prelipp and Kathleen Collins, sons Glenn Axelson of Orlando, FL, and Ryan Axelson, daughter-in-law, Christina, grandsons Lukas and Brandon Axelson of San Francisco, CA, brother John Axelson, twin brother Bill Axelson, and sister-in-law Pat Axelson. He was preceded in death by his sister Ann McConnell and her husband Jim McConnell. Memorials may be made to American Lung Association or Coming Home Hospice in San Francisco.

My uncle Rodger's stories about his "adventures" as a Navy man on the USS Wasp are brought up often by his grand-nephews, Jack and Adam Burnside, who want to follow in his footsteps and work on an aircraft carrier. We also loved spending Christmases with Uncle Rodger and looked forward to his lively spirit and enjoyment of silly gifts and good food. He also was the only person we've ever met that could "play" a cat (Pooh) like an accordion! He will be heartily missed by us.

To the family and friends of Rodger; Please know Rodger is still with us in spirit and memory. His intellect and sence of humor were truly one of a kind. We spent many enjoyable times listening to Rodger's version of some routine aspect of life that only Rodger could spin into a story worthy of a spot on 'Saturday Night Live'.
