STEPHEN BUCHENAU Obituary

BUCHENAU, STEPHEN E. August 14, 1917 to Sept. 7, 2010 Steve was born in his parents' house on Wilson Avenue in San Diego, and was a graduate of Hoover High School. He served in the U.S. Army from May 11, 1942 to January 31, 1946, and reached the rank of Sergeant. After the war, he returned to his career with Pacific Telephone where he worked as a Lineman, Foreman and Subway Inspector. After retiring from the Telephone Co., he drove a school bus part time for the Vista Unified School District. A man of great strength, in his early years Steve was a competitive weight lifter, an accomplished hand balancing artist, and serious four wall handball player. He was a member of the old San Diego Athletic Club for many years, and it was there that he met the love of his life, June Geraldine Miller. They married in 1941 and had two sons, James and Thomas. His wife preceded him in death. Steve is survived by his two sons, his daughters-in-law, Ilene and Susan, two grandchildren, Matthew and Kathryn, and two great-grandchildren, Melody and Joshua. A private memorial service was held on September 16th, followed by interment October 6th at Glen Abbey Memorial Park.
