Dad studied Electrical Engineering and began a long career with the General Electric Supply Company. In 1939 dad married his first wife, Josephine and three years later moved to San Diego. Dad continued in the electrical business and after his retirement from GE, he founded his own company. In addition he is survived by sons Bill, Michael, and Tom (Flo) Murphy, along with stepdaughter Beverly (Dave) Roberts and sister Mary Frey. Services will be at 10 a.m., Monday, September 27th, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 2766 Navajo Road, El Cajon with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Uptown Optimist Club.

As a well-spent day brings happy sleep, so a life well used brings happy death.
~Leonardo da Vinci~

I am ready to meet my Maker. Whether my Maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter.

Our death is not an end if we can live on in our children and the younger generation. For they are us, our bodies are only wilted leaves on the tree of life.

To all my cousins in San Diego. Lynn and I share in your loss. Uncle Tom was a very special person, Uncle, and Friend. Although we are all sad we must not linger with negative thoughts. Tom lead a long long and full life. He has a very loving family that will truely miss him.

Lynn and I are so very sorry we can not attend the celeberation of his life. However; circumstantaces will not allow us to be there.

June, our love to you and all the Murphy extended family.

I will always remember him at all the Optamist functions. I would always have him save a dance for me. I will always remember his smiling face. He was so much fun and he definateally a Fred Astair. He truely was a great Optmist and loved being at their functions. He will be missed by all that knew him but, not forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
Thank you Tom for all those wonerful dances across the floor. Your truely a gentleman I will always remember.

As President of Uptown Optimist Club, it was my fortune to know Mr. Murphy. His wisdom and perseverance were an inspiration to our club members and the youth of our community. Tom founded support of many projects for kids, such as Union-Tribune's Shoe Fund for children. There is no way to replace this mountain of a man. Paul Jackson, San Diego, CA
