VERA MEDINA Obituary

MEDINA, VERA D. In loving memory of our mother and grandmother, Vera Dolores Medina, born on March 8, 1915 in Crows Landing, CA, and passed on Saturday, April 17, 2010, in San Diego. Vera was the daughter of Portuguese immigrant ranchers and dairy farmers who settled in the San Joaquin Valley. Raised in a family of 12 children, Vera graduated from the O'Connor's nursing college in 1936. Her move to San Diego a year later, introduced her to her husband, Joaquin A. Medina who preceded her in death in 2001. Vera and Jack enjoyed a marriage filled with many interests and gave their time to their friends and family through constant social events and entertaining and also to the greater community through volunteer organizations like hospitals and the Church. Vera was a loving and vivacious wife and mother who excelled at quilting and sewing and other textile arts. She was an avid gardener who loved epitheliums and orchids and she felt most at home among the flowers and other plants she cultivated in her extensive home gardens. She touched the hearts and lives of many extended relatives and community members throughout her life in San Diego, and leaves a legacy of giving to others. She passed her natural curiosity and her love of entertaining to her four children. She is survived by son Faustino Medina (Brenda) of Alpine; and three daughters, Lynnette Wexo of Denver, Jacquelin Medina (Joseph Bronesky) of Denver and Bibiana Medina (Ward Smith) of San Diego, twelve grandchildren, eleven great-grand-children, and two great-great- grandchildren. Services at St. Vincent de Paul, 4077 Ibis Street, San Diego, 92103. Vigil on Thursday, April 22nd, at 5 p.m. with Rosary at 6 p.m. Services on Friday, April 23rd; Viewing 9:00 a.m.; Mass 9:45 a.m. Donations may be sent to Catholic Charities Homeless Women's Service, Rachel's Women's House, 349 Cedar Street, San Diego, CA 92101, 619.231.2828.

We only met Granny Vera briefly at Jess & Ian's wedding last year, but her impish good humour, gracious presence and wonderful eyes are strong memories. She brought many beautiful blessings to the world, not the least being Bibi and Jacquelin and all her dynasty. Blessings, John and Trudy

I am very sorry to hear about your loss. She is in a better place now, reunited with your dad. Our fathers were both fishermen at the same time, and our moms were friends. I went to school with Lynette. I was sorry I was not able to attend the services this morning due to my husbands' illness. I will keep you all in my prayers. Bibi, you did a great job caring for her and taking her to church so she could visit with her friends.

Our sincere sympathy. We remember very well how gracious and fun your mom and dad were to be around. I fondly hold many memories and stories of Jack and Vera from San Diego, Panama, Wisc. and other spots, mostly chasing tunaboats! Condolences and Best Regards to Faustino, Bibi and all of the Medinas.

Muggins, as my family knew her was a very special loving friend. Our family friendship went way back she and my Mother Alice( Davis)Wielage
were best friends. She and Jack took our family into their heart and home when we lost our father and also the home we lived in which was sold. Muggins was a great gardener, she loved her plants as did she love the crafts which she indulged in, many quilts will be enjoyed by her family. Muggins, will be missed by all of us, but she now is in a better place. May she rest in peace. In Love Betty (Davis)Mooney
