SALAZAR, WALTER Walter Salazar, age 86, passed from this world on January 9, 2012. He was born in San Antonio Texas, one of 12 children born to Erminia and Vincente Salazar on February 15th 1925. Walter joined the Navy at age 17. He retired in 1969 after 26 years of service. The highlight of his career was teaching Survival Training to US Pilots during the Vietnam War. He was instrumental in establishing a Training Survival School at Cubi Point, Philippines. After retiring he continued serving our country by working at the US Border Patrol in San Diego. Walter loved the outdoors; he was an avid fisherman, hunter and golfer. He leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Dolores Martinez Salazar two daughters Lola and Sally and one son Vincent as well as nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A memorial Mass will be said on January 19th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church, San Diego, CA. So so so sad to hear about Walter's passing. My heart and sympathy goes out to his family...my family. He was a kind and loving person and I was so fortunate to have known him and to have so many good memories to draw on. PS Walter, if you can hear, dont be too bossy up there in heaven and tell Grandma Lucy I said hi! Love you and Miss you!
