Ernest L. Womack
SPRINGFIELD - Ernest LaVerne Womack (Mac) (Verne) of Springfield passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at 9:17 am, Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Bickford House in Springfield.
Mac was born in Springfield, IL on September 10, 1930 to Edith Roberta Pourchot and Harvey Womack. He married Marilyn Cross on November 8, 1951 at First Methodist Church in Springfield.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn whom he was married to for 61 years; his sons, Kevin (Cindy) Womack, Ron Womack, Greg (Kathy) Womack and daughter Sherri (Brian) Passfield; seven grandchildren, Jason Womack (Companion: Trina), Jennifer (David) Strebel, Alex (Amy) Womack, Kaitlin Womack, Alicia Passfield, Kyle Passfield and Josh Womack; two great grandchildren, Max and Maddie Strebel; one brother, Rolla (Marge) Womack; two sisters, Marilyn Scott and Roberta Hobbs; a special brother-in-law, Oscar Muchow; several cousins, nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Bob (Virginia) Womack and one sister, Evelyn Johnson.
Mac spent his entire life living in the Springfield area. He graduated from Tri-City High School. Mac served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955. He was stationed in Key West, FL. Mr. Womack worked for the First National Bank for fifty years retiring in 1999. He had many roles while at the bank, working his way up to Assistant Vice President. After his retirement he spent his days volunteering for Memorial Medical Center as a Red Coat. He also volunteered his time in any way he could doing upkeep at Concordia Lutheran School and Church and at Lutheran High School. In September 2012 he was on the Veterans Honor Flight to Washington DC. Mac and Marilyn were able to spend ten years enjoying the warm winter months in Bonita Springs, FL. They also enjoyed dancing at the Riverton K.C.
Mac was a fifty year member of Concordia Lutheran Church.
Visitation: 4- 7 pm, Friday, February 15, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home.
Lie-in-State: 9:30-10 am, Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Concordia Lutheran Church.
Funeral Service: 10 am, Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Concordia Lutheran Church with Reverend James Hennig officiating. Burial will follow at Mechanicsburg Cemetery.
Mac and his family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Mocharnuk and his staff for the great and wonderful care you gave to him during his illness.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Concordia Lutheran Church or Lutheran High School in memory of Mac.
