I knew Marje thru our respective affiliation with the Springfield Camera Club. While I only knew her for a few years of her time with the club, she was a valuable resource, especially after I replaced her a few years ago as club secretary. She had performed in that position very capably for many years, long before I joined the club. We exchanged many emails re the club while she was able, and I've missed her wisdom on dealing with club affairs of late, due to her health issues.

Monday, November 19, 2012. I was privileged to attend Marje's funeral services today, and as the song goes, everything was beautiful -- including her, dressed in pink. She always looked so lovely, especially in that color. What a wonderful Christian friend and she will be dearly missed. It's so great that she has finally found peace. Your pain is in our hearts and all of you will be in our every prayer.

An Open Letter to the Family and Friends of Marje Stromme
I have come to the realization that the women of Marje's generation have not received enough recognition for their part of the “Greatest Generation”. What these women endured and sacrificed to support their parents, brothers, and husbands is what forged their values.
The core of Marje's being was born in her early years, caring for her family: Grace and Ronald Verry and their relations; her brother, Marvin Verry and family (wife: Mary; children: Ed, Tom, Jane and Maureen); her marriage to Lawrence and birth of their son Mike; and an ever growing extended family of church, clubs, and community.
In 1964 Marje and Lawrence Stromme moved back to the Springfield Illinois area purchasing the house at 2154 Hood St. (If you do the math, that was 48 years ago.) The move back to Springfield, as I remember it, made for one of the happiest times of Marje's life. It has taken a lot of years for me to realize the importance of that move for her.
Marje's dedication for all she loved was who she was. Her warmth, compassion, and willingness to foster the well-being of all of the lives she touched was the essence of Marje. Always with a willingness to help and a hand extended, she continued to build and support a huge family. A house lived in for 48 years becomes a home, a community becomes a family and it is understandable why she was so set in staying in her home to the end. Unfortunately, home ties also reflect one's loses over time; the lose of her husband, parents, and brother. Her mother, Grace Verry, had been able to stay in her home until her passing at age 90, possibly strengthening Marje's resolve to stay in her own home.
During my last visit to Springfield, Marje made it very clear how important remaining in her own home was to her. I wish to thank all of the family and friends who made it possible to celebrate her 90th birthday in the home she loved. No better gift could ever have been given than your support, making it possible that her desire became a reality: to remain in her home of 48 years, until her passing.
It would not surprise me that when your time come that you will find Marje standing at the gates of heaven with GOD, with her hand extended, welcoming with the warmth and compassion that she had ever day of her life. That is who she was, that is why she was, and can anyone ask for a better life.
For your gifts to Marje, may GOD bless and keep you,
Mike Stromme
